Nation Wide Quarantine

Screenshot_20200322-122341__01As India decides to stay home for a continuous span of fourteen hours in view of the COVID-19 pandemic, we come across a new experience altogether. Did you notice something, today? I saw more birds near my balcony, more butterflies flying freely. I heard the silence which was not broken by the honking. I could see more dragon flies in the clear sky. So I could see clear, hear more and breathe fresh air. My eyes and ears were not disturbed by the roaring vehicles neither did my breath had the taste of carbon filles fumes. I felt some part of my mind which is otherwise always stressed by the buzz and the pollution, experiencing peace, for the first time and that too, all day long. Strange no? Strange that we can feel peace within, without even having the need to meditate. Because otherwise we are so habituated of the sounds of automobile, AC vents, devices and gadgets and many more that we do not even realise how much we are exposed to.

The birds must be thinking what happened to the humans? How come they are giving us the space we deserve? How come they are not damaging the planet’s beautiful ambience by the clumsy noise and clutter they create? Well indeed the reason behind it is highly unfortunate but somehow it has given us a glimpse of how Earth would have felt centuries ago, to some extent. When the sapiens along with others roamed in the jungle filled with abundant fruits and clearer rivers. Indeed the concrete jungle didn’t disappear today, neither did the vibrant green carpeted the surface suddenly but sure that the unnecessary haste and rush is lost in the snap of a finger. Indeed we realised that we need not always mandatorily be hurriedly contributing towards making this planet’s air, sound and soil more polluted for no bigger significant purpose to solve.
So this is how it looks when a country of millions come together for one day to solve a greater purpose. This is how it looks when we do it willingly. While we are quarantining ourselves to protect the human race, we actually helped the planet to heal alot. We did our bare minimum unknowingly, by not damaging it further, for one day. Just think of the damage our presence has caused to it over centuries while we tried to always mend and mould it as per our needs.

Apparently Nature knew, that if not for our own lives, we humans, may never stop exploiting the resources that were offered to us and that belonged to all other creatures equally. May be it knows we learn lessons the tougher way.
We being the acclaimed intelligent ones intelligently used everything to create what we call a “better place” for us. But today, deep down we saw what a better place would look like.
Let us be a little more wise this time, once this scary pandemic is gone, and if at all nature gives us another chance and we survive, lets help the planet heal.

May it heal.

  1. Nicely put! This should be published world wide to let people know that we are doing good to our planet. This should be a part of sustainable development which is otherwise only being talked about but hardly do we see any such action creating an impact. I hope this blog is read by as many people as possible and shared across the globe. Thank you for writing this! 🙂

  2. What if this is nature’s way of retaliation? We know that everything eventually moves towards the mean position, or a pre-sustained balance. Nature has always taken care of itself as it has to exist anyhow. Maybe this is just a resistance against the extreme crisis we’ve created.
What if this is earth showing us who actually controls the board!
(Or it may also be a revenge against the recent Australian Wildfire!).
Anyway, that was quite perceptive of you. Fantastic!
